KPop Demon Hunters has been one of this year’s biggest surprise hits. Released on June 20th, the CG animated movie has blown up Netflix’s charts, becoming one of hte streamers most-watched animated originals with 82 million views and 137 million hours of viewing.
Despite being out for five weeks now, the film is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, Netflix just announced that KPop Demon Hunters has made history as the first Netflix film ever to reach a new viewing peak in its fifth week of release.
KPop Demon Hunters viewership performance has improved each week since its release five weeks ago. In its first three days (ending June 22nd), the film racked up 9.2 million views with about 15.4 million weekly hours viewed. By its second week (ending June 29th), it had an additional 24.4 million views for a cumulative total of 33.4 million views. The movie stayed steady for Week 3 (ending July 6) and week 4 (ending July 20th) with 22.7 million and 25.8 million views, respectively.
We don’t have the exact numbers for week five yet, but Netflix has confirmed its viewership once again peaked — an incredible feat for a movie that is basically a sleeper hit.

KPop Demon Hunters isn’t just topping Netflix’s charts, it’s topping the music charts as well. As we reported earlier, the film’s signature track “Golden” by HUNTR/X had officially climbed and held onto #1 on both U.S. and global Spotify charts. It held the #1 spot globally for four consecutive days, outperforming major releases from BTS and BLACKPINK. It’s also the highest-charting animated film soundtrack on the Billboard chart, where it reached #6 in just a week.

Despite the success KPop Demon Hunters is having, Netflix has not yet announced plans for a sequel. However, creator and co-director Maggie Kang recently admitted she is always thinking of sequel ideas.
