To celebrate America’s 249th birthday, PBS will host its 45th “A Capitol Fourth” celebration live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday on PBS.
The program will also stream on YouTube and at www.pbs.org/a-capitol-fourth.
A few friendly Louisiana faces will be there, including Lafayette singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle and New Orleans musician and producer Trombone Shorty. Other performers include Josh Turner, The Beach Boys, The Temptations, the National Symphony Orchestra with pops conductor Jack Everly and more.Â
The annual tradition, hosted this year by Alfonso Ribeiro, will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and all-volunteer armed forces, along with a tribute to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The event will also feature a rendition of the “1812 Overture” accompanied by live cannon fire from the United States Army Presidential Salute Battery and a fireworks finale.Â
