Organizations today are grappling with the challenge of effectively utilizing generative AI while mitigating potential drawbacks. Many companies have implemented two core layers of risk management strategies: establishing policies for the use of the technology and employing critical thinking when interpreting gen AI’s outputs. In addition to these strategies, it is essential for companies to integrate a new third layer of risk management: team-based judgment. This approach involves three key components: collective judgment, where teams engage in discussions to assess output accuracy; domain judgment, where decision-making authority is entrusted to individuals with expertise or proximity to the work; and reflective judgment, where teams convene regularly to share and reflect on their experiences and insights regarding AI usage. By fostering team-based judgment on a broader scale, organizations will be better equipped to navigate the rapidly evolving AI landscape and confront unforeseen risks in the future.
