Marjorie Taylor Greene reveals DOGE initiative to scrutinize government spending

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., emphasized the need for leaders of sanctuary states and cities to justify their receipt of federal funds to a new congressional subcommittee focused on reducing government waste.

Greene, leading a subcommittee collaborating with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, discussed her plans to cut government spending on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

One of Greene’s priorities for the subcommittee is investigating the immigration crisis.

“I’d like to discuss with the governors of sanctuary states and the mayors of sanctuary cities why they should receive federal funding if they choose to harbor illegal criminal aliens,” she stated.

Greene specifically referenced the tragic murder of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student killed by Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan illegal immigrant, bringing attention to the need for scrutiny in such cases.

Greene outlined various other areas that the subcommittee will scrutinize to trim government expenses.

“To achieve this, we will review program failures, contracts, employees, grant programs, and more that are not benefiting the American people,” Greene explained.

The congresswoman mentioned that government-funded media outlets like NPR, which she alleges as solely propagating Democrat viewpoints, will be a focus of investigation by the subcommittee.

The subcommittee will also assess current government contracts and programs to determine their relevance and necessity.

Greene pointed out government employees who continue to work remotely post-pandemic, questioning the worth of maintaining numerous government-owned buildings that remain unoccupied despite hefty annual spending.

These instances, according to Greene, demonstrate inadequacies in government service to the American populace.

“We are committed to seeking out the truth and verifying if the use of American taxpayers’ hard-earned money is justified,” Greene affirmed.
