Mark Wahlberg revealed his wife Rhea Durham’s surprised reaction after he shaved his head to portray his balding character in the new film “Flight Risk.”
In a recent interview with “Extra,” the 53-year-old actor shared that he chose to shave his head rather than using a bald cap for his role in the action thriller directed by Mel Gibson.
“I don’t want to spend hours in the makeup chair with a bald cap and glued-on hair pieces, then needing touch-ups,” Wahlberg explained. “So, just shave it off, trim it in the morning as needed, and be free all day.”
Despite Wahlberg’s satisfaction with his decision, he remembered Durham’s initial shock at his new look.

“She went under the covers, man,” Wahlberg chuckled.
“At first, she was like ‘Aaah, get out of here,’ but she eventually got used to it,” he added. “After a while, she thought it was cool.”
Wahlberg and Durham, who got married in 2009, have daughters Ella, 21, and Grace, 15, and sons Michael, 18, and Brendan, 16.
“The most priceless thing was seeing my wife’s face when I took my hat off after getting the hair cut for work that day.”
In June, Wahlberg unveiled his shaved head in a photo he posted on Instagram.
“No bald cap needed,” he captioned a picture with his hairstylist. “We go all in.”

In a June interview with People magazine, Wahlberg described how he achieved his character’s look.
“I shaved the middle and left the horseshoe around the sides,” he explained. “They would shave the top as close to the scalp as possible every day, obviously, because we didn’t have any stubble or anything. So I just hid it with a hat.”

“I was at a UFC event and I appeared on the Jumbotron wearing a hat,” the two-time Oscar nominee shared. “I was about to take off my hat to acknowledge everyone out of respect and then I realized I still had it on.”
“And then my son tried to remove it,” Wahlberg recounted. “I said, ‘Dude, you can’t reveal the hair right now because I don’t want to spoil it for the movie.’
“I wanted people to see it for the first time in the film’s context, whether in the trailer or the actual movie,” Wahlberg explained.
Joined by Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace, “Flight Risk” follows a U.S. marshal on a plane transporting a government witness to New York. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions escalate when not everyone is who they seem to be on the flight.
