May Mobility, a startup specializing in autonomous vehicle technology, introduced at CES 2025 its latest addition to the vehicle lineup: an electric, autonomous minibus developed in collaboration with European electric bus manufacturer Tecnobus.
Based in Ann Arbor, May Mobility offers autonomous shuttle services on demand and on fixed routes in various locations such as campuses and planned communities. Currently, the company operates a fleet of 40 retrofitted Toyota Sienna minivans equipped with May’s self-driving software and hardware stack, accommodating up to eight passengers. The Tecnobus vehicles, expected to join the Sienna fleet by late 2026, can transport up to 30 passengers, including those with wheelchairs.
The Tecnobus minibus from May Mobility is tailored for urban transit, corporate campuses, airports, and planned communities, featuring swappable batteries to minimize downtime. Moreover, the company has stated that the bus is certified for use in Europe and Canada.
May Mobility has not disclosed the number of Tecnobus buses planned for incorporation into its fleet or the specific markets where they will operate.
Currently, May Mobility operates driver-assisted shuttle services in cities like Arlington, Texas; Detroit, Michigan; and Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The company also has a presence in Japan, with NTT licensing May’s technology for an autonomous vehicle pilot program in Nagoya. May Mobility has ongoing projects in Tokyo and Fukuoka as well.
Furthermore, May Mobility recently initiated a pilot program in Ann Arbor involving driverless shuttles to test the technology’s capabilities without a human driver in the front seat.
