During the middle of the film, while Driver’s character Cesar was addressing the camera, the screen suddenly went blank. Some of the audience mistakenly clapped, thinking the movie was over, but then, in the dimly lit theater, a man entered the stage from the wings holding a long microphone.
Standing on one side of the stage under a spotlight, the man faced Driver on screen and asked him a question, resembling a bizarre Zoom press conference in the midst of a pandemic. Driver responded, and the man quickly exited the stage. The whole exchange was so strange and seemingly purposeless that it left me unsure of how to react.
