MGM+ has confirmed that the highly anticipated thriller 40 Acres will debut on the service on 4th August, aligning with its theatrical release in the UK.
Set in a near future where the only measure of wealth is food production, 40 Acres follows Hailey Freeman, a Black military veteran who must protect her family in the aftermath of a second Civil War that broke America and threatens to envelop her farm in rural Canada. Haunted by the murder of her father, she is certain of three things: she only trusts one person outside the family; never again will she allow anyone to take what’s hers; and she will do anything to protect their four children.
On the cusp of manhood, Hailey’s son Emmanuel sneaks out and encounters a girl, Dawn Clever, from a distant property whose farm is full of life. As attacks on surrounding farms escalate, Emmanuel finds the girl injured and hides her from his shoot-first-ask-questions-later mother, setting the stage for a clash between mother and son. With their birthright in the balance, they must come together as a family and stand against a ravenous militia. 40 Acres is a stunning, post-apocalyptic thriller that examines race, history, and family through the lens of a future where trust no longer exists.
