Midwest Culture Fest Returns to Augusta Just in Time for Independence Day Weekend

Augusta, Wis. (WEAU) – The 49th Annual Bean and Bacon Days Festival in Augusta is set to kick off ahead of Independence Day weekend.

This five-day festival will feature bean wrestling, duck race, parade, fireworks, and more. New this year is the bean tasting and circus. However, the circus will not be in town until July 9. The festival has become a tradition that highlights Midwest culture and the community’s hospitality. It dates back to 1956 when the town celebrated its bicentennial. However, the committee and Augusta Lions Club decided to keep the festivities going after seeing a big turnout from Augusta residents. Thus, the Bean and Bacon Days Festival was born in 1976.

“It’s just rural Wisconsin, and we’re celebrating our heritage and who we are, and everything it means to live in the Midwest,” Katherine Gaulke, who is on the Bacon and Beans Days Festival Marketing Committee, said. “So, we have our Demo Derby. We have our burnout competition. It’s just everything great about living in the Midwest.”

The festival is a big undertaking, and organizers are looking for volunteers to help out, whether it is participating in the bean wrestling or serving food and drinks.
