Netball Super League to introduce new two-goal Super Shot in 2025 as part of major revamp

The Netball Super League for the 2025 season will feature a new two-goal Super Shot to enhance the game.

This new rule allows teams to score two-goal shots from a designated area in the shooting circle during the last five minutes of each quarter.

Initially introduced in the Suncorp Super Netball division in Australia in 2020, the Super Shot will now be a part of every Super League match.

It will also be utilized in the final three minutes of each quarter at the one-day Netball Super Cup on March 8, preceding the NSL starting on March 15.

During the Super Shot period, shooters can still score single-goal shots from closer to the net in the shooting circle.

Alongside the introduction of the Super Shot, there will be more innovations announced in the future.

Claire Nelson, the managing director of the Netball Super League, expressed excitement: “As we usher in a new era for the NSL, we are delighted to introduce this thrilling new rule that will elevate fans’ experience of the game.

“The Super Shot will be a fantastic showcase of the incredible skill and athleticism of our powerful female athletes, taking our game to a new level of excitement.”

Sky Sports’ Tamsin Greenway has been named London Mavericks’ director of netball ahead of the 2025 Super League season

“This innovative approach is sure to create discussion and generate excitement around our sport, enhancing the competition in the upcoming season,” Nelson added.

The Netball Super League’s redesign, reducing the 10-team division to eight, aims to initiate a 10-year journey towards professionalism.

New additions to the league include Birmingham Panthers and Nottingham Forest Panthers, joining teams like Leeds Rhinos, London Mavericks, London Pulse, Loughborough Lightning, Manchester Thunder, and LexisNexis Cardiff Dragons.

Teams like Severn Stars, Strathclyde Sirens, Surrey Storm, and Team Bath will no longer be part of the division going forward.
