Netflix Axes Two Star-Studded Series

Netflix has decided not to renew two of its newest shows this year. Meanwhile, the future of 2 Broke Girls creator Liz Feldman’s black comedy series No Good Deed remained uncertain, after nearly seven months since making its debut.

What are Netflix’s two new canceled shows?

The streamer has officially ordered the cancellation of producer Shonda Rhimes’ latest murder mystery show The Residence, and its first original English-language medical drama Pulse. According to a new report, The Residence’s series debut was overshadowed by the massive success of the thriller drama Adolescence, which was released a week before the Shonda Rhimes show’s premiere. As for Pulse, the show wasn’t able to keep up with the success of other new medical dramas, including Max’s Noah Wyle-led series The Pitt. The cast and crew were reportedly notified about the cancellation over a month ago.

The Residence was written by showrunner Paul William Davies, with How to Get Away with Murder creator Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers serving as executive producers. The show centered around Detective Cordelia Cupp of the Metropolitan Police Department, who becomes the lead investigator of a high-profile murder case at The White House. The ensemble cast included Uzo Aduba, Randall Park, Giancarlo Esposito, Susan Kelechi Watson, Ken Marino, Jason Lee, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Mary Wiseman and more.

Pulse was created and executive produced by Zoe Robyn, who was also serving as the showrunner alongside Lost’s Carlton Cuse. The drama starred Willa Fitzgerald (The Fall of the House of Usher), Justina Machado (One Day at a Time), Colin Woodell (The Continental), Jack Bannon (Pennyworth), Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), Daniela Nieves (Vampire Academy), Jessy Yates (Law & Order: SVU), Chelsea Muirhead (Warrior), Néstor Carbonell (The Morning Show), Santiago Segura (Grey’s Anatomy), Ash Santos (Mayor of Kingstown), and Arturo Del Puerto (Westworld).
