New HDMI 2.2 to be unveiled at CES 2025

HDMI 2.2, the latest HDMI specification, is set to be unveiled in early January.

In an email sent to the press, including Mashable, the HDMI Forum announced that HDMI 2.2 will be revealed on Jan. 6 in Las Vegas, a day before the start of CES.

Details beyond the press conference at the tech conference were not provided, but the email mentioned that HDMI 2.2 specifications will support a variety of higher resolutions and refresh rates.

As noted by Tom’s Guide here, the timing of the announcement coincides with planned press events from Nvidia and AMD. Both companies are expected to introduce new GPUs (GeForce RTX 50 from Nvidia and Radeon RX 8000 from AMD), suggesting a possible alignment with the new HDMI standard.

The current HDMI standard, HDMI 2.1, was launched in 2017 and supports 48Gbps bandwidth, up to 10K resolution, and up to 120Hz refresh rate at 4K. The upcoming HDMI 2.2 specifications are expected to bring a substantial upgrade from this. Mashable will be at CES to cover this and other tech news.
