Nick Martinelli’s last-second jumper lifts Northwestern over Maryland in overtime

Nick Martinelli hit a baseline jumper just before the overtime buzzer to lift Northwestern to a 76-74 win over Maryland, ending a three-game losing streak.

Northwestern was up 64-56 with 4:43 left in regulation, but a late 11-2 run by Maryland tied the game at 68-all. In overtime, both teams exchanged baskets before Martinelli’s game-winner.

Martinelli led Northwestern with 22 points, followed by Barnhizer with 20 points and Berry with 15.

Reese scored 23 points for Maryland, Gillespie added 14, and Rice had 13. The game featured multiple lead changes and ties throughout.

Maryland will face Nebraska next, while Northwestern takes on No. 20 Michigan after their buzzer-beater loss to Minnesota.
