The evolution of the Octo carabiner multitool is quite unusual. It initially started small, grew larger, but has now returned to a smaller size. The current smaller model, known as the Octo Mighty, still manages to incorporate about 18 functions in a compact titanium body.
Manufactured by Danish outdoor gear company Sitpack, the original Octo comes in various metal options including titanium, stainless steel, or aluminum. It features a fold-out magnetic bit driver, bottle opener/pry bar, and wire stripper among other functionalities.
Following the original Octo, the larger Octo Max was introduced with additional tools. The Octo Mighty, while keeping most of the Max’s features, enhances some functions, yet is approximately half the size of its predecessor.
Sitpack
Like the Max, the Mighty is exclusively available in titanium construction (with some parts in SS420 stainless steel). While it can be used as a regular carabiner for hanging and connecting gear, it is not suitable for high-stress activities such as rock climbing.
Similar to the Max, the Mighty includes a fold-out stainless steel cutting blade that can be upgraded to a seatbelt-cutting blade or a 67-layered Damascus steel blade. The Mighty also features a fold-out magnetic screwdriver bit socket and a fold-out wrenching tool.
Sitpack
The Octo Mighty also includes a tungsten window-breaking stud, fingernail file, ruler, wire stripper, and a combination tool. Notable exclusions from the Max are two sizes of spoke wrench and a “secret” storage hole. The Mighty’s pocket clip is now optional.
The Octo Mighty is currently part of a Kickstarter campaign, where a pledge of $59 secures one. The retail price is planned to be $99.
