A young man from Oregon, 18, has been given a life sentence for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl. A prosecutor is speaking out against a state law that may significantly reduce his time in prison.
Daniel Ryan Gore could potentially be released from prison in less than ten years due to the law in question, as he was just 16 when the murder took place.
The state law that provides Gore with this opportunity, Senate Bill 1008, enacted five years ago, has drawn severe criticism from a Washington County prosecutor.

Senior Deputy District Attorney John Gerhard expressed surprise at the protective measures the law provides, as reported by KPTV.
Gerhard, the prosecutor in the case, believes that Gore, a violent offender, is not receiving the appropriate punishment he deserves.

“He should serve the rest of his life in prison based on the crimes he committed,” Gerhard stated to KPTV.
Gore was found guilty last month of the 2022 rape and murder of 13-year-old Milana Li in Beaverton, Oregon. The authorities accused him of enticing the girl into a wooded area, assaulting her, and then leaving her body in a creek.

He received his sentence on Monday.
Despite being 16 at the time of the crime, he was deemed capable of standing trial as an adult due to the severity of his actions.
