Exciting news to share – we are embarking on a deeper collaboration with AMD. The project name, inspired by AMD’s red and PlayStation’s blue, is Amethyst.
With Amethyst, we are embarking on a long journey with two main goals in mind.
Our first goal is to create an ideal architecture for machine learning, capable of handling neural networks, especially lightweight CNNs for game graphics. Our focus is on achieving fully-fused networks.
To achieve this, we are combining the expertise AMD gained from its RDNA road map with SIE’s custom work in PS5 Pro.
We also aim to democratize machine learning for game developers, making AI and ML accessible for both graphics and gameplay.
Amethyst is about supporting broad machine learning work, not just for PlayStation, but for various devices.
Our second goal is to develop high-quality CNNs for game graphics, allowing both SIE and AMD to utilize these network architectures and training strategies to enhance game graphics with ray tracing and path tracing.
