According to a poll released on Thursday, most Republicans are not interested in hearing celebrities’ opinions on political matters amidst the current “information overload” following the election.
The poll by AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research is titled “Most adults feel the need to limit political news consumption due to fatigue and information overload.”
Results from the poll show that 61% of Republicans strongly/somewhat disapproved of celebrities discussing political issues, with 27% expressing neutrality and 11% showing approval. On the other hand, only 20% of Democrats strongly/somewhat disapproved, while 40% were neutral, and 39% approved.
Many Americans are still feeling the effects of the recent election, resulting in a general feeling of burnout when it comes to political news.
The poll’s summary states, “Sixty-five percent of adults have felt the need to limit their media consumption about the government and politics due to information overload, fatigue, or similar reasons and half feel the same for overseas conflicts. Around four in ten adults feel the same way about news on the economy and climate change.”
Democrats are more likely than Republicans to feel the need to limit their media consumption of stories about government and politics overall, at 72% versus 59%.
‘KAMALA ERA’: DNC LAUNCHES TAYLOR SWIFT-THEMED CAMPAIGN IN PITCH TO YOUNG VOTERS

But, only a quarter approve of celebrities, professional athletes, or large companies speaking out, while 4 in 10 disapprove.”
The study highlighted that “Democrats are more likely than Republicans to approve of celebrities, professional athletes, and large companies speaking out about politics. Small businesses speaking out on political issues is viewed similarly by Democrats and Republicans.”

When Swift endorsed the Harris-Walz campaign in 2024, it was seen as a blow to the Trump campaign. However, President-elect Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris suggests that Swift’s endorsement may not have had the desired impact on Democrats.
According to AP VoteCast, 44% of women aged 18-44 voted for Trump, while 48% of women 45 and older supported him.
The poll conducted by AP/NORC took place between December 5 and 9, using a probability-based panel of NORC at the University of Chicago. Interviews were conducted online and via telephone with 1,251 adults.
The poll’s overall margin of sampling error was +/- 3.7 percentage points.
