Possible Redesign of Mac Mini Could Eliminate USB-A Port, Speculation Suggests

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple’s upcoming Mac Mini will not include USB-A ports. Gurman reports in today’s Power On newsletter that these new desktops are expected to arrive in Apple’s warehouses in September, with the higher-end version featuring an Apple M4 Pro chip set to ship in October.

The M4 Pro variant will come equipped with multiple ports, such as five USB-C ports (two in the front and three in the back), an ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack, as per Gurman’s sources. Additionally, the new Mac Mini is said to feature an internal power supply, which is quite impressive given its expected size, similar to an Apple TV.

As the Mac Mini design remains relatively unchanged over the years, it may be time to bid farewell to USB-A ports. The Mac Mini has retained its design since its inception, making it the oldest in Apple’s lineup. It’s evident that a refresh is long overdue, as highlighted by Chris Welch’s comparison between the 2012 and 2023 models. The transition to a new design is essential, marking a significant milestone for the Mac Mini.
