Real estate technology firm reAlpha has appointed Vijay Rathna as its Chief Crypto Officer (CCO), according to a press release on Feb. 6.

Rathna will start in his new position on Feb. 20, where he will be responsible for overseeing all of reAlpha’s blockchain and cryptocurrency endeavors, including token strategy, blockchain integrations, and digital asset innovation.

With his background as an associate professor at Columbia University specializing in “Blockchain and AI” and his previous role as senior vice president of innovation and development at Coretelligent, Rathna’s expertise in this emerging sector of real estate is expected to enhance adoption within reAlpha’s homebuying platform.

During his time at Coretelligent, Rathna led the development of various blockchain-based projects, including a digital ticketing platform, an SEC-approved stablecoin, and a blockchain product for a global insurance company.

Rathna’s appointment as Chief Crypto Officer follows William Brent Miller’s hiring as CFO in August, marking reAlpha’s second C-level addition in the past six months.

Giri Devanur, CEO of reAlpha, stated, “We are excited to welcome Vijay Rathna as our Chief Crypto Officer, positioning reAlpha as one of the first Nasdaq-listed companies with this role. This appointment underscores our dedication to innovation in blockchain technologies and digital asset utilization. We believe Vijay’s expertise in blockchain architecture, entrepreneurial mindset, and ability to deliver innovative, compliant solutions make him a valuable asset to our team.”

ReAlpha introduced a free homebuying representation and advisory services application powered by an artificial intelligence named “Claire” in August. The release coincided with the implementation of new real estate commission payment rules resulting from a settlement between the National Association of Realtors and a consumer class seeking reimbursement.

While blockchain offers numerous possibilities for real estate, communicating its value to the industry remains a challenge. Despite some real estate deals being completed using cryptocurrency, such transactions are still relatively rare in the traditional market.

ReAlpha aims to establish its presence alongside industry leaders like Propy, known for promoting the value of blockchain technology.

Commenting on his new role, Rathna expressed, “I am thrilled to join reAlpha and contribute to its mission of modernizing real estate through AI technologies. I am excited to advance reAlpha’s blockchain initiatives and deliver impactful solutions for investors.”

ReAlpha is listed on the NASDAQ under the symbol AIRE.
