The recent NASCAR rules changes emphasize the consequences of intentional driver sabotage, prompting repercussions that could significantly impact a driver’s season.
Although NASCAR didn’t explicitly state this, the new waiver rules clearly imply it.
According to NASCAR’s announcement, if a driver misses a race for non-medical reasons and receives a waiver to stay playoff-eligible, they will forfeit all playoff points earned during the regular season.
This means that if a driver qualifies for the playoffs, their points will reset to 2000 with no additional playoff points. Subsequent rounds will only include playoff points from the previous round.
