Virtual baseball fans, it has begun.
The pre-release hype season for MLB The Show 25 is underway, and we now know two major pieces of information. Let’s take it from the top.
MLB The Show 25 Release Date and Pre-Order Info
The new game will be released on March 18, 2025, for the Sony PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. MLB The Show 25 will not be available on platform subscription services in 2025.
There will be an Early Access offer for customers who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition, beginning on March 14, 2025.
The first gameplay trailer is scheduled for February 4 at noon ET. That’s also the day when pre-orders will open to the public. I’ll have coverage and reactions.
MLB The Show 25 Has 3 Cover Athletes
On Tuesday, January 28, Sony confirmed that the young stars of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, and Baltimore Orioles—Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz, and Gunnar Henderson, respectively—have been named the official cover athletes for MLB The Show 25.
Sony hit back-to-back-to-back dingers with this three-headed approach to the cover. It’s tough to find three more dynamic, popular, and quite frankly, cool options for the cover. Baseball is blessed to have a wealth of young stars on the cusp of superstardom. That’s the perfect spot for a cover athlete.
- Paul Skenes: A generational talent who nearly won the National League Cy Young award as a rookie last season. He’s likely to enter the 2025 season as the odds-on favorite to win the award. If he pushes the Pirates to the postseason, he could even contend for MVP honors. He’s been that good.
- Elly De La Cruz: Perhaps the most swag-filled player in the majors. He displays a rare combination of athleticism, power, and switch-hitting ability. Every game, De La Cruz shows he can do things that are nothing short of extraordinary.
- Gunnar Henderson: The most conventional star of the trio and the most accomplished. Henderson appears to be a lock for an American League MVP award within the next three seasons, as he’s come close the past two years.
