Report: Fani Willis requests Georgia appeals court reinstate 6 charges against Trump and co-defendants

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is reportedly seeking to reinstate six of her original criminal charges against former President Trump and his associates in her 2020 election case. These charges were previously dismissed by a judge earlier this year.

Willis has submitted a brief to the Georgia Court of Appeals, urging them to overturn Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee’s decision to drop charges against Trump and his allies, as first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday.

Judge McAfee dismissed six of the charges against Trump in March, citing insufficient detail in Willis’ allegations.

In addition, McAfee also threw out two other charges against Trump last month, ruling that Willis and Georgia prosecutors lacked the authority to bring charges related to alleged falsification of documents in federal court.

Judge McAfee did uphold the racketeering charge against all defendants in the case.

The case faced additional uncertainty due to reports of an inappropriate relationship between Willis and prosecutor Nathan Wade, who was assisting in the case against Trump. Wade later resigned.

In June, the Georgia Court of Appeals halted proceedings pending a hearing on the disqualification of Willis, marking yet another setback for her.
