Mira Murati, the OpenAI CTO who announced her departure last month, is currently in the process of securing VC funding for a new AI startup, as reported by Reuters.
This new startup is expected to specialize in developing AI products using unique models and could potentially raise over $100 million in its current funding round.
Upon her exit, Murati expressed how OpenAI had revolutionized the way AI systems learn and solve complex problems through its recent advancements. She mentioned her departure was aimed at giving herself the opportunity to explore new avenues, although she did not delve into specifics about her future endeavors.
Prior to joining OpenAI as the VP of applied AI and partnerships in 2018, Murati held positions at Tesla and Leap Motion. She was later promoted to CTO in 2022 and even served as interim CEO when co-founder and CEO Sam Altman briefly stepped down.
Murati is just one of the recent departures from OpenAI, with the chief research officer and research VP also announcing their exits shortly after hers. A week after these departures, OpenAI announced a record-breaking VC round, securing $6.6 billion in funding.
