The investigation into alleged sexual assault charges against Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has been closed by the Swedish Public Prosecutor’s office. Reports from France (via El Nacional) suggest that the charges have been dropped due to “insufficient evidence”.
While in Sweden during the international break in October, Mbappe was staying in a hotel in Stockholm when the alleged incident took place. Despite speculation linking Mbappe to the situation, the Swedish Public Prosecutor’s office has not confirmed his involvement. The 25-year-old denied the reports on social media, referring to them as “fake news”:
“FAKE NEWS!!!! ❌❌❌ It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance 😉”
Prosecutor Marina Chirakova stated in a letter (via El Nacional) that there was insufficient evidence to continue with the case, leading to its closure:
“There is not enough evidence to continue with the case… During the investigation, a person reasonably suspected of rape and two cases of sexual harassment has been identified, but I consider that the evidence is not sufficient to continue the procedure, and therefore, the investigation is closed.”
During Mbappe’s time in Stockholm, France secured a 4-1 victory over Israel in their Nations League group stage clash at the Bozsik Arena on October 10, followed by a 2-1 win over Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium on October 14.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti provides Kylian Mbappe injury update
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti shared an update on Kylian Mbappe’s injury after the forward was substituted in their 3-2 Champions League win over Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on December 10. Mbappe scored the opening goal in the 10th minute but had to leave the pitch in the 35th minute due to injury.
After the match, Ancelotti mentioned (via GOAL):
“[Mbappe] has a strain, some discomfort in his thigh. We’ll have to see. It doesn’t look serious, but I don’t know, we’ll see tomorrow. He couldn’t sprint. It was bothering him, so we had to substitute him.”
Despite Mbappe’s absence, Real Madrid continued their strong form with a victory over Atalanta, climbing to 20th place in the UEFA Champions League table after winning three out of six games.
