Dave Chisnall was eliminated from the World Darts Championship in a thrilling final-leg defeat to Ricky Evans, as former world champion Rob Cross also suffered a surprise loss in an eventful session at Alexandra Palace.
Chisnall, after winning the opening set, had to fight back from a 2-1 deficit to force the match into a final set, where both players survived match darts in extra legs. Evans eventually clinched the match with a final-leg victory, knocking out another seed in the process.
In a dramatic pre-Christmas session, Daryl Gurney won a final-set decider against Florian Hempel while Gian Van Veen, the world youth champion, was defeated by Ricardo Pietreczko. Cross was then beaten by Scott Williams, marking a record-breaking 14 seeded players being eliminated in the second round.
