Rural residents share their views on Gov Walz’s ‘very liberal’ policies: Comparing Minnesota to California

REDWOOD COUNTY, Minn. — Rural Minnesotans are expressing dissatisfaction with the policies of Democrat Gov. Tim Walz, which they believe have negatively impacted them over time.

At “Farmfest,” a local agriculture trade show, Minnesotans shared their opinions on Walz as their state leader after he was selected as Vice President Harris’ running mate in 2024, in an interview with Fox News Digital.

Matthew A., a Minnesota resident who operates a farm with his family cultivating corn and soybeans, voiced his disappointment in Walz’s lack of support for rural Minnesota.

“We often joke that we’re like mini California. Many of us would consider joining South Dakota if we could. His policies have been detrimental to small businesses. I know people who have lost their small businesses because of his actions. It’s devastating our small towns and rural growth,” Matthew A. shared with Fox News Digital.

“He explicitly referred to us as just rocks and cows here, and he has not done much to assist us. And frankly, a man who can witness a city burning down without taking action like he did in 2020, lacks integrity. He doesn’t deserve our votes,” he added.

Dan Fedders, a salesperson in Minnesota, labeled the Harris-Walz ticket as “extremely liberal.”

“I think they make a great team, the two of them together. Bless them. However, they don’t stand a chance,” Fedders remarked regarding Walz and Harris. “In my view, he is as liberal as she is. I believe most Minnesotans are pleased with this dynamic because he might depart or at least be absent for a while.”

“Governor Walz has, in my opinion, been a disaster for Minnesota,” shared a local resident who preferred not to disclose his name to Fox.

“He has turned his back on rural America. I think as a potential leader at this moment, he is displaying a lot of contempt for his opponents in the way he addresses them. While this might be part of the political game, it’s not the behavior I want to see from our leaders. It hasn’t been beneficial for Minnesota,” he added, expressing his belief that Walz’s “fiscal responsibility has been lacking for the citizens of Minnesota.”

“He’s been detrimental to the state. There’s no other way to put it,” claimed a farmer and local restaurant owner, who also chose to remain anonymous. “He has harmed this state more than he has helped.”

Farmfest is recognized as the largest gathering of farmers and agriculturalists in Walz’s home region. His administration has gained national attention for its policies aimed at promoting sustainability and biofuels, topics usually unpopular in red states and farming communities.

Walz has served as the governor of the state since 2019.
