Another surprising twist for Galaxy owners
Just as it seemed Samsung’s One UI 7 / Android 15 delays had finally come to an end, is there a nasty new surprise for millions of Galaxy S24 users? Perhaps. And if so it comes at an awkward time, given the even more serious issue facing those same users.
Samsung has confirmed that its latest flagships will start receiving One UI 7 from April 7, and in the U.S. the published date for Galaxy S24 owners was April 10. But now as SammyFans reports, Samsung U.S. has dropped a “One UI 7 bombshell,” deleting the page confirming that April 10 date and its social media references as well.
“Meanwhile,” the news site says, “Samsung didn’t touch any newsroom posts on global and other regional newsrooms. We’ve seen such incidents with the One UI 6’s rollout in 2023 when the Beta Program was halted due to unforeseen reasons in the U.S.”
SamMobile warns the same, that “Samsung appears to have quietly backtracked on some of its One UI 7 release date claims, hinting at a possible delay in some markets… Today, Samsung no longer seems as sure of itself as it was a couple of days ago.”
And this might not just be a U.S. issue. “In parallel with retracting the original post from the U.S. Newsroom portal,” SamMobile says, “Samsung issued a new One UI 7 release announcement through its Australia Newsroom portal (and possibly others).” Exact dates have gone. Samsung says its official rollout will start from April 7, but footnotes a warning that “availability may vary by market.”
This is “bad news,” says PhoneArena. “We’re still a few weeks away from the official release of the update, so anything could happen, but things aren’t looking so good for Samsung at the moment.”
There is no confirmation, and this could all be nothing. Even a 24 or 48 hour delay might see media posts change. “ U.S. and other users should not worry unless and until there’s updated news coming out of Samsung. For now assume mid to late April.
That said, there is another issue behind the scenes here: a U.S. update mandate from its government’s cyber defense agency. The fix was released by Google earlier in the month following active attacks against Samsung and other Android phones, but while it made it into Pixel’s release it’s not yet listed in Samsung’s. The deadline is March 25. There is a chance this fix is being prioritized and might push back other updates.
“It’s a lot of smoke,” says Android Police, “and where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. There is a single saving grace for dejected Galaxy S24 owners, though, and it’s those other blog posts. Other various region announcements continue to appear live and unedited on the site… It all points to a U.S.-centric delay away from April 10th.”
