Samsung’s Galaxy G Fold: Limited Edition Tri-Fold Flagship Launching in September with Impressive Specs

The Galaxy G Fold could become the official name of Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone, with the possibility that the company piques the audience’s interest during its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event by showcasing a teaser. However, it was evident from the start that the company would not risk removing the much-needed attention from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 by announcing something bold and new, which is why a new report states that mass production of the device will start much later in the year, while also mentioning that quantities will be limited, indicating a significantly high price.

The new report also dives into Samsung’s pricing strategy; the Galaxy G Fold could fetch nearly $3,000 when using direct currency conversion

Given that Samsung was previously rumored to limit the Galaxy G Fold launch to just two markets, China and South China, its tri-fold flagship would likely fetch a higher price due to the limited manufacturing quantities. On X, @Jukanlosreve mentions details published by The Bell that the smartphone will launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, with mass production starting sometime in September. The initial quantity was not mentioned in the report, but an estimated price of 4 million Korean won, which translates to nearly $3,000, has been highlighted, and the figure is certainly not for the faint of heart.

Production is expected to commence at Samsung’s primary smartphone factory located in Gumi, and the reason for the limited quantity is not just wanting to witness how the two markets respond to a device with this unique form factor, but also the high production cost and complex components arrangement, resulting in less favorable yields. Of course, the manufacturing process will undergo some refining to bring those costs down, but an initial positive market reaction is absolutely crucial for Samsung to proceed to the next stage.

Samsung Display will start the tri-fold OLED panel’s production in August, with the company likely sticking with the Snapdragon 8 Elite as the chipset for the Galaxy G Fold, given that there is no other viable alternative other than MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400+, which is considered inferior in some aspects to its competitor. The OLED’s display size will reportedly expand to 10 inches when completely unfolded, transforming into a tablet, but despite the increased footprint, Samsung does not wish to use a bigger battery.

Apparently, the capacity will be smaller than the 5,600mAh cell employed in the Huawei Mate XT, as Samsung has reportedly run into space constraints and increased thermals, limiting the option to incorporate a bigger battery. This would explain why the 3C certification database revealed an insignificant 25W wattage output of the tri-fold smartphone, and there is no confirmation if the device will support Qi wireless charging. Hopefully, we will stumble across more helpful information during the Galaxy Unpacked event, so stay tuned.
