Israeli drone attack targets the Shaara area in eastern Bekaa region.
An Israeli airstrike has resulted in six casualties and two injuries in eastern Lebanon amidst a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that a drone struck the Shaara area, located near the town of Jennata, in the eastern Bekaa region on Saturday.
The Israeli military released a statement claiming that the targets were Hezbollah operatives within a facility used for the production and storage of strategic weapons.
“Activities within the facility are seen as a clear violation of the agreements between Israel and Lebanon,” the statement said, referencing the ceasefire deal signed on November 27 that ended the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Despite the agreement, Israel has continued its military actions against alleged Hezbollah sites.
Although the ceasefire called for a 60-day implementation period ending on January 26, Israel postponed the withdrawal of its troops from southern Lebanon, citing Lebanon’s failure to fully comply with the agreement.
As per the truce terms, the Lebanese army is set to deploy alongside UN peacekeepers in the south to replace Hezbollah forces.
Israel has also conducted a series of attacks in the eastern Bekaa Valley, an area often associated with Hezbollah. On January 31, the Israeli military claimed to have targeted multiple Hezbollah sites near the Syrian border, resulting in at least two casualties.
Hezbollah official Ibrahim Moussawi denounced the airstrikes as a “very dangerous violation and a clear aggression,” urging Lebanon to put an end to Israel’s ongoing assaults.
