Spurs coach Gregg Popovich shares his intention to make a comeback in latest statement following stroke.

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich revealed on Monday that he plans to return to coaching after suffering a stroke in early November.

Popovich, the winningest coach in NBA history, expressed his gratitude for the support he’s received during his recovery. The stroke occurred just hours before the Spurs’ home game against Minnesota on November 2.

While there is no set timeline for his return, doctors are optimistic about his full recovery.

In a statement, Popovich said, “This has been a challenging time for my family and me. The support we’ve received has been overwhelming and greatly appreciated.”

Popovich, who has won five championships with the Spurs and coached the US to a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, is currently in his 29th season as head coach.

The stroke occurred at the team’s arena and Popovich received immediate medical attention. The specifics of his recovery and potential lingering effects are still unknown. Assistant coach Mitch Johnson has been filling in during his absence.

Popovich humorously mentioned that his rehabilitation team is eager for him to return, despite his reluctance to be a compliant patient.

The Spurs are eagerly anticipating Popovich’s return, with general manager Brian Wright expressing their readiness to welcome him back.
