Two rescued and 200 relocated by Beijing’s emergency ministry.
China has initiated a search for over 30 individuals following a landslide in the southwestern province of Sichuan.
The incident occurred in Jinping village, Yibin city, on Saturday at 11:50am local time. State broadcaster CCTV reported that numerous individuals are missing, with the situation still being considered hazardous.
“Ten houses were buried, over 30 people are missing, and approximately 200 individuals were evacuated and relocated,” stated CCTV.
Rescuers on the scene warned that the landslide is ongoing, and residents have been evacuated and advised to stay away from the affected area.
President Xi Jinping has expressed concern and urged authorities to intensify search efforts and minimize casualties, as per the Xinhua news agency.
The Ministry of Emergency Management reported the successful rescue of two individuals and the relocation of 200 others. Emergency teams continue searching for survivors at the site.
Premier Li Qiang has called for an investigation of potential geological hazards in nearby regions and the evacuation of at-risk residents to prevent future disasters.
A villager informed Beijing News that there had been consistent reports of rocks rolling down the mountain in recent months, with geologists inspecting the area late last year.
Xinhua disclosed that the National Development and Reform Commission has allocated 50 million yuan ($6.9m) from the central budget for emergency infrastructure and public service restoration.
