A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the murder of a senior Russian general in Moscow.
The suspect, a male citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan born in 1995, was identified by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
He is charged with setting off an explosive device outside a residential building in Moscow on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov and Maj. I.V. Polikarpov.

The suspect stated that he was recruited by Ukrainian special services to carry out the attack, which the agency claimed responsibility for on Tuesday.

“Following their instructions, he came to Moscow, obtained a powerful homemade explosive device, and placed it on an electric scooter parked near the residence of I.A. Kirillov,” a translated Russian statement said. “To survey the address of the serviceman, he rented a car-sharing vehicle, installed a Wi-Fi camera inside, and streamed the footage to organizers in Dnepr, Ukraine.”
