The Future of Gaming on Smartphones

Over the past few years, Nubia has positioned RedMagic as a gaming smartphone brand worth considering. It follows the classic flagship killer model, offering high-end specifications at a price closer to mid-range competitors than premium smartphones, especially in the gaming segment. It focuses solely on meeting the needs of gamers. With the introduction of the RedMagic 10 Pro, is Nubia still leading the pack?

RedMagic 10 Pro And Nubia’s Product Cycle

One standout feature of the RedMagic lineup is the frequent refresh of its handsets. With annual numerical updates and semi-annual ‘S’ releases, the latest RedMagic gaming phone is always near the top in terms of specifications. However, the trade-off for the competitive pricing is the limited software and security updates provided by Nubia. The RedMagic 10 Pro package includes only one Android update, two years of UI upgrades, and three years of security updates, raising concerns about its long-term viability.

Despite the short update window, the high performance and gaming-focused hardware of the RedMagic 10 Pro may outweigh the longevity concerns.

RedMagic 10 Pro Hardware

The RedMagic 10 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, a top-of-the-range chipset. It is paired with up to 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage using LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1 Pro protocols for faster data transfer.

The liquid metal cooling system in the RedMagic 10 Pro efficiently dissipates heat from the 8 Elite chipset. Additionally, the phone features a cooling fan to enhance performance. However, the focus on gaming prowess means it lacks waterproofing.

Despite its gaming-centric design, the RedMagic 10 Pro can also serve as a daily phone with full Android support and sufficient power for everyday applications.

RedMagic 10 Pro Battery

The RedMagic 10 Pro features a large 7050 mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 5 technology, supporting up to 100W wired charging. Despite intensive gaming draining battery life, the phone offers enough power for extended use.

RedMagic 10 Pro Camera

The RedMagic 10 Pro’s design prioritizes a flat layout without a camera bump, resulting in a comfortable feel during extended gaming sessions. While the rear camera is serviceable, it is not a standout feature due to focus on gaming hardware.

RedMagic 10 Pro Game Space Software

The RedMagic 10 Pro features air triggers in the shoulders for gaming in landscape mode, customizable through GameSpace software. GameSpace enhances the gaming experience by offering a dedicated game launcher.

The RedMagic 10 Pro Display

Gaming smartphones require top-notch displays, and the 10 Pro delivers with a 6.85-inch screen running at 1.5K resolution, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and a high touch-sampling rate. The screen design, with minimal bezels and an under-display selfie cam, ensures an immersive gaming experience.

The RedMagic 10 Pro offers a smooth gaming experience with ergonomic design and innovative features. While software updates are limited, the device excels in performance, display quality, and gaming features at a competitive price point.
