Nvidia, the chipmaking giant, is increasing its focus on robotics in 2025. According to the Financial Times, in the first half of the new year, Nvidia will introduce Jetson Thor, a new generation of compact computers for humanoid robots.
This move, which was anticipated, is part of a long-standing strategy. Nvidia intends to support the numerous robot manufacturers worldwide rather than directly compete with companies like Tesla. Deepu Talla, Nvidia’s vice president of robotics, explained this during a recent press event in Tokyo.
Talla also mentioned to the FT that two technological advancements have prompted this shift: the proliferation of generative AI models and the ability to train robots using simulated environments.
Additionally, as major customers like Amazon and Google develop their own AI chips to reduce reliance on Nvidia, the company’s foray into AI-powered robots becomes more significant.
