Tom Walkinshaw Racing or TWR is a renowned name in British motorsports. They are known for creating iconic supercars like the XJ220 and XJR-15 in the early 1990s. Under the leadership of Tom’s son Fergus, the brand has made a remarkable comeback.
Presenting the Jaguar XJS, reborn by the revitalized TWR and featuring a V12 engine, known as the Supercat. This modern interpretation of a classic masterpiece is the result of TWR’s collaboration with top names in motorsport like McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, Williams, and Renault F1.
The striking steel finish and sculpted design of the exterior demands attention. Designed by Khyzyl Saleem, it draws inspiration from the 70s and 80s era, as well as original Jaguar designs like the XJR-9, XJR-15, and the XJ220.
Transforming the grand tourer into a fierce track car was a challenging task. TWR enhanced the XJS’s elegant design, maintaining its iconic roofline and dimensions while intensifying its muscular appearance.
The entire body is crafted from carbon fiber, featuring unique elements like aerodynamic bonnet vents, a katana-like front splitter, and distinct wheel arches. This material choice contributes to a 9.3% reduction in weight compared to the original Jaguar XJS.
The rear of the car showcases a prominent diffuser and a projecting ducktail spoiler. The aerodynamic design is further complemented by aerodisc wheels and a side-exit exhaust system.
Collaborating with a Mercedes F1 aerodynamicist, TWR optimized the airflow through the flying buttresses for functional aerodynamics. The redesigned back splitter and smoothed-out floorpan enhance the car’s downforce capabilities.
The Supercat is equipped with TWR Forged Monobloks wheels, 18 inches in the front and 19 inches in the rear. The car’s floorpan and rear splitter have been redesigned to handle the increased downforce, leading to the relocation of the exhaust system to the side.
Powered by a 5.6-liter supercharged V12 engine developed in-house by TWR engineers, the Supercat delivers approximately 650 horsepower and 538.4 lb-ft (730 Nm) of torque. Paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, this powerhouse offers thrilling performance.
Optional features include launch control, programmable traction control, and carbon ceramic disc brakes. The car offers five different driving modes to adapt to varying driving conditions.
The luxurious interior boasts an all-leather cabin, covering everything from door panels to the steering wheel. The digital entertainment interface supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with an intuitive toggle interface for adjusting settings.
TWR is now accepting orders for the Supercat, with production limited to 88 units globally as a tribute to Tom Walkinshaw’s iconic victory at Le Mans in 1988. Deliveries are set to begin in the summer of 2025, priced at around £270,000 in the UK (approximately US$338,553).
