Elon’s first marriage was to Canadian author Justine Wilson from 2000 to 2008. The couple initially met as students at Queen’s University in Canada and briefly dated during college.
After graduating and going their separate ways, the couple reconnected a few years later when Elon invited Justine to Silicon Valley. The author shared the details of their romance in a personal essay for Marie Claire in 2010.
Following the tragic death of their first son and Elon’s demanding work schedule, Justine described how their marriage started to crumble.
“It was a dream lifestyle, privileged and surreal. But the whirlwind of glitter couldn’t disguise a growing void at the core,” she wrote.
Despite facing “some anger” and a complicated divorce process, Justine also mentioned in her personal essay that she does not “regret” the marriage or divorce.
Elon’s second marriage was to actress Talulah Riley. They began dating shortly after he filed for divorce from Justine, got married in 2010, divorced in 2012, reconciled in 2013, and finally split for good in 2016.
Despite the brief nature of their marriage, the Pride and Prejudice actress expressed no significant resentment about the breakup.
Despite their past relationship, Talulah had positive comments about her weddings with Elon. She shared that all their weddings were “lovely” in an interview with The Times in 2024.
Following his divorce from Talulah, Elon briefly dated actress Amber Heard before getting involved with Grimes. Actress Natasha Bassett and attorney Nicole Shanahan have also been rumored to be romantically linked to him, although he denied any connection with Nicole.
