A new report highlights the 20 top-trending open source startups worldwide, with more than half of them closely connected to AI.
The report is created by European venture capital firm Runa Capital, which operates the Runa Open Source Startup (ROSS) Index since 2020. The Index provides quarterly updates on the fastest-growing projects based on GitHub “stars,” equivalent to a social media “like.” Starting in 2023, Runa began publishing annual reports, showcasing the most popular commercial open source startups for the year.
The previous year’s report showed a demand for open source tooling in AI and data infrastructure, with LangChain leading the ROSS Index with its open source LLM-centric app framework.
