Tiger Woods relocates Genesis Invitational to San Diego due to wildfires affecting LA course

The Genesis Invitational, Tiger Woods’ annual golfing event, is relocating from Los Angeles to San Diego following damage caused by wildfires to the original course.

The PGA confirmed on Friday that the event will move to Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, 123 miles south of its original location in LA.

Woods expressed that the event will serve as a platform to support fire victims.

“We are thankful to the City of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational, and to everyone who has shown support for the tournament,” Woods stated. “While Riviera remains the home of The Genesis Invitational, we are excited to play on another top-quality golf course this year and use the tournament to assist those impacted by the fires in the Los Angeles area.”

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan also expressed appreciation for the change in location.

“Our thanks to Tiger Woods, TGR Live and Genesis for their leadership in these efforts,” Monahan said.  “We are thankful to Farmers Insurance, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, the City of San Diego, and the Century Club for offering the opportunity to move The Genesis Invitational to Torrey Pines.”

“Highlighting the resilience of Los Angeles and the need for continued support for the ongoing recovery efforts is what our collective teams are working towards with the playing of The Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines,” Monahan added.

The Riviera Country Club, although not destroyed by the fires, is facing power and water issues, and the decision to relocate the tournament was made out of respect for fire victims.

The Genesis Invitational is anticipated to return to The Riviera Country Club in 2026.

“The devastation from the LA fires is truly tragic, and as a California native, it deeply affects me,” Woods shared in a statement on his social media platforms. “My thoughts are with those who have experienced unimaginable loss. I extend my gratitude to the heroic first responders who are working tirelessly to contain and protect the Los Angeles community.”
