TJ Pompey Joins Arkansas Baseball Following Texas Tech Transfer

TJ Pompey is the latest transfer portal commit for Arkansas baseball, switching schools and coming to the Razorbacks after spending his first two seasons at Texas Tech.

Pompey hit .279 with 10 homers and 49 RBIs as a freshman in 2024. The campaign earned the Texas native freshman All-American honors from Perfect Game and the National College Baseball Writers Association.

His 2025 season was marred by injuries, the final coming with an unspecified ailment sustained in a game against Kansas State on March 30. He didn’t play the rest of the season. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported seeing Pompey on the bench with a brace on his right wrist.

The 6-foot-4 infielder played just 19 games with 18 starts as a sophomore. He hit .349 with five home runs and four doubles in his 69 at-bats before sitting out the rest of the year.

Pompey’s biggest weakness across two seasons is a 28.4% strikeout-percentage at the plate. He walked just five times in 79 plate appearances in 2025.

Pompey has experience at second, shortstop and third. Arkansas will have no shortage of competition across the infield.

On the right side, Reese Robinett, Cam Kozeal and Nolan Souza are set to return. Souza missed the final 30 games of the season with an injury to his throwing shoulder.

However, the Hogs will likely need to replace both of their starters on the left side of the infield. Shortstop Wehiwa Aloy is going to be a first-round pick, while third baseman Brent Iredale is also projected to be selected in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Ball State shortstop Dylan Grego already announced his commitment to Arkansas earlier in the transfer portal cycle. Pompey is an option to be the answer at third base. That was his primary position this season with the Red Raiders.
