Trump disregards media forecasts, opts for experienced Capitol Hill veterans like Marco Rubio

The media had predicted that in a second term, Donald Trump would have “no guardrails” and would appoint right-wing extremists to top positions.

However, Trump surprised everyone by selecting Marco Rubio as secretary of State, an experienced senator and son of Cuban immigrants who has been advising him on foreign policy.

Other appointees include conventional conservatives who align with Trump on key issues and could have been chosen by someone like Mitt Romney.

Trump has been swiftly announcing these appointments post-election, attempting to show a serious approach to governance from the start.

Although all top positions have not been filled yet, even some top Democrats are praising Rubio’s selection, while some Trump supporters are disappointed. Rubio is known for his hawkish views and will play a crucial role in American foreign policy.

Rubio and Trump may have clashed in the past, but they have reconciled. Rubio has distanced himself from previous immigration reform efforts and is known for his charisma.

Trump’s critics highlight his hires as “loyalists,” but the reality is that all presidents rely on aides who align with their views. Biden, Obama, and Clinton also appointed loyalists to their administration.

As Biden prioritized environmental issues and strengthening regulations, his policies were seen as a stark departure from Trump’s. It is expected that Trump will reverse many of these policies swiftly.

Other notable appointments include Elise Stefanik for U.N. ambassador and Lee Zeldin to run the EPA, both seasoned conservatives with specific policy goals.

Trump is also tapping individuals like Kristi Noem, Mike Waltz, and others with strong backgrounds for key roles, demonstrating his commitment to specific policy areas.

These selections reflect Trump’s focus on experienced individuals who understand the workings of Washington.

With further appointments pending, the Trump administration continues to unveil its lineup of top officials, shaping the narrative around his presidency from day one.
