Ubisoft has already announced the end of development and sunset for its free-to-play team-based shooter XDefiant, despite officially launching the game this spring. Despite a delayed launch, XDefiant initially reached over 10 million players in its first two weeks. However, by this fall, concurrent player numbers had dropped below 20,000, leading to rumors of trouble. Insider Gaming reported the decline.
According to Ubisoft, XDefiant will remain available to players who joined before December 3rd, 2024, with all functionalities accessible until June 3rd, 2025. Season 3 content will still launch, and refunds will be issued for certain purchases. More details
The shutdown of XDefiant also means job losses in Ubisoft’s production studios, including San Francisco, Osaka, and Sydney. A significant number of employees will be departing due to the closure of these studios.
