‘Union and taxpayer groups sue DOGE for access to IRS data, fearing catastrophic consequences’

A lawsuit filed on Monday by taxpayer and union groups alleges that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) violated multiple laws in its efforts to uncover and eliminate wasteful government spending.

The groups claim that DOGE embarked on a “sweeping campaign to access highly sensitive information systems” and breached laws that restrict executive power, protect civil servants, and safeguard citizens’ data held by the government.

The agency, established by an executive order earlier this year, is currently a temporary organization within the White House charged with optimizing the federal government, streamlining operations, and reducing spending within 18 months.

Recent actions by DOGE at various government departments led to the lawsuit, alleging that DOGE’s access to sensitive information systems is not authorized by law.

The lawsuit specifically accuses DOGE of violating the Tax Reform Act, Privacy Act, and Administrative Procedures Act.

The suit claims that the consequences of DOGE’s actions have been disastrous.
