An innovative smart projector has recently launched on Kickstarter that offers multiple functionalities. It can be used as a projector for walls or ceilings, a compact smart display for various activities, and even as a bedside clock. The A3 model is capable of projecting 4K visuals at 3,000 lumens and can be tilted on its stand which also includes speakers.
A Chinese startup that initially produced projectors for other brands in 2023 has transitioned to manufacturing its own models this year. They have previously showcased a similar projector called the A2 Pro, and now with the A3, Dongying aims to target international tech enthusiasts through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.
The projector features a 4K UHD projection engine that supports 8K input with a projected image size ranging from 40 inches to an impressive 450 inches, making it ideal for immersive viewing experiences on a large scale.
The projector is equipped with a fully sealed LED light source producing 3,000 ISO lumens, suitable for daytime viewing without the need to darken the room. The projector is attached to a stand allowing it to tilt 260 degrees for flexible positioning including ceiling projections. It features a built-in sensor that activates the projection when tilted upwards and also includes a 20-W speaker system for audio playback via Bluetooth.
Additional features include autofocus capabilities for sharp visuals without manual adjustments. While specific auto-adjustment technologies like keystone correction are not mentioned, the A3 promises a unique audiovisual experience.
The A3 is powered by a MediaTek MT9669 chipset with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. While the prototype runs on Android 9.0, the final version will upgrade to Android 11 for optimized performance. The projector’s operating system has been customized to align with the hardware capabilities and user needs. Netflix and other popular apps are supported, eliminating the need for additional devices for content streaming.
In a unique twist, the A3 features a tablet-like touchscreen display for control and app functionality. When paired with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the projector can function as a productivity tool for tasks like emails, web browsing, and document creation.
The projector supports wireless screen sharing for presentations, media sharing, and gaming from smartphones. While Wi-Fi connectivity is not explicitly mentioned, the projector’s streaming capabilities suggest that it is likely included.
To fund production and engage with potential customers, Dongying has turned to Kickstarter. Pledges are currently available starting at $209, with a retail price of $399. Shipping is expected to commence from March 2025 if the funded campaign progresses as planned.
