Residents in San Francisco living next to a Waymo parking lot are still disturbed by overnight honking, despite the company’s attempt to fix the issue. Waymo’s solution to the problem of cars beeping their horns in the parking lot unveiled a more complex problem.
After Waymo attributed the honking to a safety feature triggered by cars reversing towards each other, issues persisted. Sophia Tung, who monitors the parking lot via livestream, witnessed cars entering a cul de sac next to her building and causing a commotion.
Following complaints, Waymo swiftly disabled access to the cul de sac and organized an ice cream social to appease the neighbors. Despite a brief period of calm, the issue resurfaced with cars creating a line to enter the lot and triggering a chain reaction of honking and reversing.
Tung has reached out to Waymo about the ongoing honking issues and plans to discuss them with company representatives on her livestream tomorrow. Waymo has not yet responded to requests for comment.
