The William Floyd High School Fine Arts Department, led by Coordinator of Music Dr. Amy Sckipp and Fine Arts Chairperson Theresa Bianco, recently hosted its annual senior Signing Day ceremony. This ceremony, which is held at the Jeananne Dawson Memorial Library, recognized 15 students who will be continuing their education in either the arts or music at college. Each student signed a non-binding certificate of commitment to their college in front of an audience of family, friends and teachers who were present to celebrate this special accomplishment with them. Â Â
After graduation, 10 of these students will pursue degrees in music including music education, music performance, music industry, sound recording technology, and various areas of theater. Five of these students will pursue degrees in art including art education, animation, illustration, digital media, and fashion design. Dr. Sckipp proudly announced at the ceremony that this group of students collectively received $500,000 in scholarships as they begin this next chapter!
The Signing Day ceremony also included an art exhibit and a Tri-M Recital Performance, both of which featured many of the students being celebrated. The art exhibit was arranged with the help of Mrs. Bianco, Erin Almeida, James Carson, Tina Higgins, Tori Gulino, Melanie Kuklis, Erika Licausi, Abigail Shapiro, Gregory Williams and the WFHS art teachers. The Tri-M performers were under the direction of Mick Singh and received musical accompaniment from Donia Rivera and Berkeley Rousseau.
Congratulations to all of the students and best of luck as they continue their fine arts education!
