“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg approved tech reporter Kara Swisher’s ambition of acquiring The Washington Post from Jeff Bezos or entertaining the idea of establishing a “new newspaper.”
Swisher had mentioned last year that she was in the process of gathering a group of investors to buy the Post, but Bezos has not shown any inclination to sell the Washington, D.C. paper.
The Post has experienced a departure of prominent reporters and editors in recent months. Last year, it caused dissatisfaction among some readers and staff by announcing that it would not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Bezos, who intervened to prevent an endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, has further upset staff with recent modifications to the paper’s opinion section.
Amidst the internal turmoil at the Post, Swisher reiterated her interest in acquiring the paper during Thursday’s episode of “The View,” stating that she knows numerous billionaires who would be willing to assist.

“The financial aspect is not the problem. The problem is that Jeff Bezos doesn’t want to sell because he views it as a tool now,” Swisher remarked on the daytime talk show.
“Musk has X, and he has this. What’s happening, however, is that all the talented individuals are departing. Ruth Marcus recently left, an excellent columnist, the head of P.R. just quit, the head of communications departed yesterday, and they’re losing subscriptions due to Jeff’s actions,” Swisher commented.
“He tends to blame the reporters. They are resistant to change, and I might have agreed with that sentiment a decade ago, but the reporters recognize the need for change,” Swisher continued before Goldberg interjected.
“So, perhaps,” Goldberg mentioned as Swisher inquired if she wanted to participate.
“I do,” Goldberg affirmed. “Perhaps the notion is… crowdfunding, because I believe numerous people would like to contribute to a newspaper that expresses meaningful opinions.”
Goldberg stated that she has witnessed crowdfunding accomplish “amazing feats” and believes it could assist in revitalizing the Post.
“Or perhaps it’s time for a new newspaper,” Goldberg proposed.

The Post did not respond immediately when contacted by Fox News Digital for comment.
The “head of P.R.” mentioned by Swisher was likely CCO Kathy Baird, who reportedly announced her resignation this week. The Post has not confirmed her departure.
In February, Bezos declared that the opinion section would center on advocating “in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets.”
Recently, longtime Post columnist Ruth Marcus disclosed her decision to leave the paper in an article for The New Yorker, criticizing the paper’s publisher for censoring her column critical of Bezos.
“I remained until I could no longer—until the newspaper’s owner, Jeff Bezos, issued an order to focus the Post’s opinion content on the dual foundations of ‘personal liberties and free markets,’ and, more alarmingly, that ‘viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.’ I stayed until the Post’s publisher, Will Lewis, axed a column I submitted last week expressing my disagreement with this new direction. Lewis declined my request for a meeting,” Marcus wrote.
