Trump compliments Tim Cook, stating he surpasses Steve Jobs

Trump revealed that he had spoken with Cook on the phone just prior to the interview and commended Cook for his leadership at Apple. He expressed his belief that under Cook’s leadership, Apple has achieved tremendous success, even suggesting that it wouldn’t be as successful if the late Apple founder Steve Jobs were still at the helm. Trump emphasized that he wasn’t diminishing Jobs’ contributions but rather acknowledging Cook’s accomplishments. 

The conversation between Trump and Cook reportedly included discussions about Apple’s legal troubles in the European Union, where the company faced hefty fines. The EU had fined Apple billions of dollars in response to antitrust violations related to its music streaming services.

Reflecting on the fines imposed on Apple by the EU, Trump marveled at the amount and acknowledged the challenges faced by companies dealing with legal issues. Drawing a parallel to his legal troubles in the U.S., Trump shared his empathy for Cook and the burdens that come with such hefty fines.

Trump also recounted a productive interaction with Cook back in 2019 when the former President granted Apple a tariff waiver for certain imported components. Cook had personally met with Trump to advocate for the waiver, emphasizing the importance of maintaining competitiveness and manufacturing in the U.S. Trump praised Cook for his direct involvement in the matter, contrasting it with the typical approach of companies using paid lobbyists.

In addition to discussing their professional interactions, Trump recalled his personal fondness for Cook, citing instances where Cook had reached out to him directly. Trump admired Cook’s proactive approach and the personal touch he brought to their exchanges.

Trump’s support for tariffs and his economic policies were highlighted in the interview, with plans to implement significant tariffs on imported goods, particularly from China. Despite potential concerns raised by economists about the impact of such policies, Trump’s campaign advisor emphasized the backing of industry leaders for his economic agenda.
